Today, or whenever the US senate votes, might become the historical symbol of the “make it or break it” point for America.
I’m afraid any hopes of erasing the psychophantic reign of Trump soon have to be exchanged for understanding the chronic disease that has taken root in the American mind, and therefore in it’s politics—with all its irrationality and violence.
There’s not going to be a quick fix or return to the normalcy of what was called the American Century any time soon, or ever.
The path forward will require, literally, a lot of soul searching.
Fortunately, effective soul searching, resets the individual and also collective consciousness —when the process reaches a critical mass (which can be small in number but large in coherence).
If there is a silver lining in the globality of the pandemic and climate change, and now in the apparent collapse of liberal democracy as a unifying ideal, it is that it makes soul searching more urgent.
Necessity is the mother of invention. When there’s nowhere much to go externally, and the individual feels increasingly powerless, I think that the quiet, anonymous, inner exploration by many, will inevitably lead to positive change.
Very well spoken – indeed a very sad day that reflects the current state of affairs.
